Sharing the Christmas Spirit All Year Long!

Sharing the Christmas Spirit All Year LongWe love Christmas time here at Macy’s Termite & Pest Control! We love the decorations, the parties, the music, and time with family. But we really love celebrating what Christmas truly means: Celebrating the birth of our Savior…now that is Good News!

And we love to share that Good News— not just at Christmas time—but all year long! One of the ways Macy’s shares the Good News of the gospel is by sponsoring a child through Compassion International. Here’s the story…

Compassion International

About 5 years ago, President and Owner Dean Burnside, attended a Christian concert at Robarts Arena where Compassion International was presented. Tables in the back had photographs and bios on children needing sponsorship from all over the world. Dean and his wife had gone on a mission trip to Africa in 2002, spending a week in Ethiopia and a week in Kenya, so his eye was naturally drawn to a 7 year old girl from Ethiopia named Ayantu Midekssa. He immediately made the commitment to sponsor her monthly.

For only $38 a month, Macy’s is able to support Ayantu’s education, food, health care and clothing needs. They correspond with her several times a year and receive pictures of her annually. She has grown from a little girl into a young lady now that she’s almost 13!

Through the help of  an interpreter, letters are written back and forth, sharing information and encouragement! They even received Ayantu’s school report card this year and she is doing quite well! Special occasions, like birthdays and Christmas, are celebrated with special gifts from the Macy’s team. It has been a pleasure to watch Ayantu grow healthy and strong, knowing that she almost certainly would not have had Macy’s not sponsored her. What a tremendous blessing this has been to us as a company, knowing we have had a direct and lasting impact on a child’s well-being!

Compassion International has commitment as their driving force: commitment to Jesus Christchildren, the Church, and integrity. These 4 pillars provide Compassion with a strong foundation from which to operate with excellence.

One of Compassion’s core beliefs is that they endeavor to meet more than the physical needs of the poor. Poverty sends a defeating, painful message into the heart of a child: a message that says, “You don’t matter.” By introducing children to the heavenly message of the Father’s love and salvation, this defeating message gets reversed to the life-changing message of “You DO matter!”

Every child who participates in a Compassion program is given the chance to learn about Jesus and discover how to develop a life-changing relationship with God. This “Good News” is demonstrated and shared in age-appropriate and culturally relevant ways — it is never forced!

We recommend using their resources to consider sponsoring children in need. It is a rewarding relationship indeed.
